"Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."

Steve Jobs

In PLTW Gateway to Technology course Automation & Robotics, students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics® platform to design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, toll booths, and robotic arms.

Automation & Robotics

This course will focus on developing students’ ability to think like scientists and engineers.  We will spend a lot of time asking “How” and “Why” as students develop the organizational, observational and problem solving skills that are essential to careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  Special focus will be given to mechanical engineering (gears and mechanisms), controls (computer programming) and the engineering design process.
